In an Evening Prayer service on June 15, 2009, Bishop Robert N. Lynch commissioned 27 lay ministers from around the diocese who had completed four years of formation in The Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute. The formation received by these men and women included class time on such subjects as the Word of God, Lay Leadership Skills, Conflict Resolution and Diversity Issues, Social Justice, the Sacraments, and Canon Law. They also attended Theological Reflection sessions and various workshops around the diocese. In addition they completed an Apprenticeship in a specific ministry in a parish, and a Practicum in the final year in which they coordinated a ministry in their home parish.
